How We Started
Shaping the future of seniors' quality of life

Jerry's Story
I did not set out to become a Seniors Advocate. I just could not ignore Jerry.
Jerry was my neighbor—a veteran, a widower, and a man with no children. He was kind, quiet, and always thankful. But behind closed doors, he was slipping through the cracks. His mail went unopened. Appointments were missed. Food expired or sat out too long. I saw what was happening, and I could not simply walk past it.
It began with small things—driving him to the doctor, buying groceries, and making phone calls he could not make himself. Over time, those small acts became something much deeper.
One day, Jerry was not feeling well, so I asked to see his medication. He placed 13 prescription bottles and a multivitamin on the counter. He was taking two pills from every bottle each day, plus the vitamin.
That added up to 27 pills a day—189 pills a week and 837 pills a month.
My first thought cannot be respectfully printed here. My second was: This can't be real. This can't be right.
At that moment, I became a Seniors Advocate.
From then on, I stepped in for every doctor’s appointment, every hospital stay, and every moment when others failed to show up. I stood beside Jerry—blocking scam calls, paying bills on time, keeping his refrigerator full, and making sure his concerns were heard. Every year on his birthday, I took him out for a slice of his favorite dessert.
I supported Jerry for 12 years—not because I had to, but because he mattered.
Through Jerry, I learned that thousands of seniors are aging alone, falling through the cracks, and facing mistreatment from people they know and trust. I also learned that every senior we fight for is someone’s Jerry.
Today, Seniors In Distress stands for them.
This work is not about numbers. It is about names—and making sure no senior is ever overlooked again.
