Better Care for Eliza
After a nine-day hospital stay,
Eliza had 42 visible needle marks. Her family deserved a clear explanation of what happened, why so many attempts were made, and whether the hospital properly documented her care.
We believe in full transparency, patient dignity, and families who feel informed, heard, and supported

The Distress
Eliza, an older adult, spent nine days in the hospital. When she returned home, her family found 42 visible needle marks on her arms. She felt bruised, in pain, and confused about what had happened. Her family needed answers and wanted to know whether the hospital followed proper procedures and kept accurate records.

How We Helped
We listened to Eliza and her family, reviewed her medical records, and worked directly with the hospital’s patient relations team. We helped
the family submit a formal request for an explanation, asked for a review of her care, and connected them with patient advocacy resources and next steps.

The Results
The hospital reviewed Eliza’s case, provided a detailed explanation, and acknowledged gaps in communication and documentation. Her family received clarity, and the hospital committed to reviewing its procedures
to help prevent similar experiences for other patients. Most importantly, Eliza and her family felt heard, respected, and empowered.

Eliza's Status
Eliza left the hospital and entered hospice care, where comfort, dignity, and time with family took priority. Her experience raised questions about the care she received and reinforced the need for families to receive clear answers when something does not look or feel right.
